Discover The Steps to Stop Panic Attacks

When a person is overwhelmed due to a panic attack, it more than often feels as though nothing can be done to help stop or even relieve the symptoms. However even though a panic attack can be really awful, there are steps to stop a panic attack. Even if you could not get rid of the attacks completely, wouldn’t it be nice to make the attacks less extreme. There are many things that can trigger a panic attack. They could be caused by a traumatic experience that recently happened, to much stress, or even past issues that you haven’t resolved can trigger panic attacks. For other people still, it can be caused by a lack of coping skills to handle the stress of life. A person can function normally and experience less panic attacks, from day to day, once they find the reason they experience these attacks. However, if the attacks are allowed to continue and no attempts are made to treat them, they can become increasingly worse until agoraphobia,the fear of leaving the house, sets in.

Time To Take Precautions

If you want to stop your panic attacks, you have to understand and acknowledge the triggers of the attacks. There are many different types of triggers, including a particular person, animal, situation, or issue that is not resolved. After you are able to identify what your trigger or triggers are, you can move on to the next step for stopping your panic attacks.

Most people who are looking to stop panic attacks have had more then one of them. With this in mind, they know what symptoms appear when an attack first starts. Being able to identify the initial symptoms, a you will be able to talk yourself through the attack. This will help you stay calmer throughout the attack. One addition to this step to stop a panic attack would be to use self talk, where the individual tells themselves that they have been through an attack before and survived it, therefore they can do it again. Deep breathing also works well by taking slow, deep breathes from the diaphragm, it will also help one to clam down during a panic attack.

In addition to these steps to stop panic attacks, when an attack is about to start, or is already starting, there are many other preventative measures that this individual can use. Many of the people who suffer from panic attacks are hard on themselves for having them. Many times they place the blame of the attack on themselves, and/or feel they have some kind of defect.

For these people, they need to know panic attacks are out of their control and they should have a better outlook on themselves. They need to have realistic expectations for stopping panic attacks, and to reduce them by reducing the situations that cause them. It is also important to prevent smoking, drinking, and caffeine use, as they are known to increase a person chance of having a panic attack.
